Fundraising

With Samaritans, administration and fundraising are shared responsibilities divided between the local branches and the national charity. The latter coordinating activities such as training, publicity, awareness and inter-branch co-operation. The branches are autonomous and are responsible for local operations and also for meeting their own running costs through their own fundraising.

The basic running costs for Putney Samaritans are approximately £27,000 per year. This includes items such as gas and electricity, office materials, training, recruitment and phone bills. It does not however include the cost of premises. Our current premises were bought in 2002 using a combination of our own reserves and a short term loan from the national organisation. This loan is being repaid at the rate of £24,000 per year, but it means that by the end of the decade we will own our property outright.
